Certification Process, Exam and Fees

The ABGC Certification Examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (170 scored items; 30 pre-test items). A candidate has four hours to complete the examination. The candidate will be asked to select the one best answer from four options provided for each question. ABGC does not limit the number of attempts for any candidate; however, we only allow one exam attempt during each test window.

The questions have been devised to test not only the candidate’s recall of knowledge, but also the ability to apply and analyze information to address problems and situations encountered in the practice of genetic counseling appropriately and correctly.

The CGC application is located in the ABGC portal, which allows candidates to manage their application, scheduling and automated Active Candidate Status (ACS) letter requests. Please see the linked application instructions for additional guidance.
